Summary: Chapters 1-5
Chapter 1:
It beings with Julia narrating how her and her town felt. She emphasized of beginnings and ends. Her world is in dismay and falling apart. She says that people predicted the disaster. On October 6, the experts when public, that there'd been a change, they called it the slowing. The slowing causes there to be more time in day. This news was reported all over social media, which caused families to pack up their minivans and leave town.
Chapter 2:
The news broke on a Saturday. In Julia's house the changing had gone unnoticed. Her friend Hanna had slept over and when they woke up they didn't know about the slowing. They went down to eat breakfast when the news came on about the slowing. Julia's mother was freaking out about the slowing, while her dad was reading the paper.
Chapter 3:
Julia and Hanna run outside, but cannot see any changes in the sky. Julia's mom is taking stock of a their emergency supplies. Hanna decides to go home. Watching the news, Julia's family learns that the Earth's rotation is beginning to slow down. Julia misses her soccer game. Julia's mother is really worried about the slowing. Julia' dad seems to be more nervous about his wife's actions than what is happening with the world. Julia's dad and Julia go outside to kick the soccer back around. Julia's father decided to go to work later and Julia's mother tells him not to go to wrk because they should all be together. Julia finds out that Hanna is moving to Utah.
Chapter 4:
When Julia's father returns from work he lies and tells Julia that nobody has died due to the slowing. She later hears her parents talking, then arguing through their bedroom door as her mother apparently asks her father if he was really at work. Her father snaps back that he was at work. Julia also believes that this slowing affected relationships, as well as the course of her own life.
Chapter 5:
The school day is pushed back 90 minutes to accommodate for the changing time of the sunrise. At the bus stop, Trevor Watkins worries that the government isn't telling them everything. Julia is having a hard time with out Hanna and one of her classmates, Daryl, bugs her and lifts her shirt up on the bus ride to school. The chapter talks about Julia's day in school how how classes have less people and who she talked to. Teacher were told not to talk about the slowing or show the news. Seth get introduce and is one of Julia's crush. An eclipse occurs which cause the students to get out of hand and also allow Julia and Seth to have an actual conversation. Seth mother is sick and Julia knows.
