Two weeks after the initial announcement, broadcasters break into the World Series to announce that it has been decided United States residents should return to "clock time." Julia is in disbelief as the clock shows it is 11 a.m., but outside it appears to be late afternoon. She doesn't think the change to clock time is possible. Julia's mother also voices the opinion that it will not work. Julia's father is silent. Julia does not understand at first the full implications of this plan.
